The combined Asthma and Anaphylaxis course is designed to comply with new childcare first aid regulations.
New Regulations

On 1 January 2012, the ‘National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care' begins. It is being introduced across Australia to help children have the best possible start in life.

Under the Education and Care Services National Law ACECQA must publish lists of approved qualifications, including a list of approved first aid qualifications, anaphylaxis management training and emergency asthma management training. Please check with your management to see whether you need Asthma and Anaphylaxis certificates or HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

22282VIC Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace

Asthma

This unit of competency has been developed to provide students with the skills to recognise an asthma attack, provide first aid assistance to the casualty, hold blue reliever medication in a first aid kit for asthma emergencies and the administration of prescribed medications. Successful students may apply to be registered for a Bronchodilator Accreditation number.

Anaphylaxis

This unit describes the outcomes required to assist a person suffering an anaphylactic reaction until the arrival of medical assistance. Application of this unit relates to the use of adrenaline auto-injecting devices, (e.g. EpiPen®/Anapen®).

The unit covers the recognition, management, prevention and risk minimisation strategies related to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. It provides the outcomes required to develop and implement a management plan to reduce the risk of severe reactions in individuals diagnosed with anaphylaxis.

 

Course details

Purpose: This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance and provide advance training in the use of auto injectors for the treatment of anaphylaxis and the advance treatments associated with Asthma.

Course Format:
ON-SITE COURSE: available for childcare centres after hours or weekends

Provide FIRST AID HLTFAID003 COURSE
Can be completed on the same day as HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Course [7hr + online workbook] 9.30am to 4.30pm $199 OR HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting 
-Can be completed on-site [minimum numbers] or as part of one of our regular public courses.

Assessment:
 Written exam for every unit
 Group activities and oral questioning throughout the course
 Practical demonstrations/skills assessments.

Qualification issued: Statement of attainment
Certificate refresher course is recommended every 3 years. The student is responsible for the revision every three years to remain current.
